- March: SAP-VN helped 224 children whose families were very poor and were heavily affected by the storm and flood last year. The funding was $8,000 which was the left-over from our Relief Fund in 1999.
- November: Cash assistance for 440 families and 600 students in Dong Thap and 128 families in An Giang.
- December: Cash assistance for 987 families and 76 students in Dong Thap and 1,382 familiesin An Giang. Building new houses for 25 families in Dong Thap.
- Total funding for relief efforts: $89,825.

- December 1 to 6, Dr. Chau Nguyen, director, led SAP-VN's team to Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Tri in central Vietnam. Storm and heavy rain destroyed houses and flooded the region. SAP-VN provided cash assistance to 210 families in Thua Thien Hue and 203 families in Quang Tri.
- December 28, SAP-VN presented cash assistance to 76 families in Quang Nam and 120 families in Quang Ngai. We also helped the children with school supplies.
- Total funding for relief efforts: $41,384.
- January: SAP-VN's doctors went to U Minh, Ca Mau, Vietnam to provide free healthcare and medicine to 830 people in areas affected by typhoon Linda.
- July: Mr. Thanh Nguyen presented food and household items to 78 children in Soc Trang and 10 children in Tra Vinh. These children lost their fathers due to typhoon Linda. Their families faced hardship since their fathers were the main providers for the families.
- November: typhoon Dawn struck central Vietnam, SAP-VN helped 50 families in Hoi An.
- Total funding for relief effort was $4,391.
In early November 1997, southern coastal areas of Vietnam was strucked by Typhoon Linda which led to hundreds of deaths, heavy property damage, and thousands of fishermen who are still missing and presumed dead at sea. In response to this heartbreaking tragedy, SAP-VN quickly organized an emergency fundraising campaign to help the victims. Immediately after SAP-VN's first press release on local Vietnamese newspapers and the internet, we received numerous support from the public. As of January 1998, we collected $36,000 in cash donations and more than 300 boxes of used clothes and blankets.
- First relief trip (Nov. 29 - 30, 1997) at Vinh Hai, Vinh Chau District, Soc Trang Province:
SAP-VN's associate, Mr. Do Khac Hoanh, and the Voluntary Team from the University of Medicine in Saigon were among the volunteers on this trip. Here, 250 families received a donation package consisting of: $100,000VND, 1 blanket, 1 mosquito net, 1 litter of cooking oil, 1/2 Kg of MSG, 10 bags of instant noodle, 1 bar of soap, 1 Kg of sugar, and 1 litter of soy sauce. The value of each package is approximately $20USD. The Volunteer Team also provided free health care and distributed free medicine to the local people. The total funding for this trip was $5,400USD.
- Second relief trip (Dec. 19 - 22, 1997) at Ca Mau Province:
Once again, Mr. Do Khac Hoanh and the Voluntary Team, as well as SAP-VN's Director, Mrs. Oanh Ress from the U.S., participated in this trip. This relief effort focused on three districts of Ca Mau province: Tran Van Thoi, U Minh, and Dam Doi. Two hundred and seventy eight (278) families with deceased members due to Typhoon Linda received $1,000,000VND ($80USD) cash assistance. Poor families of these three districts also received cash assistance of $200,000VND ($15USD) each. As with the first trip, the Volunteer Team also provided free health and dental checkups to the local people. SAP-VN also funded 9 schools to re-roof classrooms and provided cash assistance to 3 teachers' families. The total funding for the second trip was $29,779USD.
SAP-VN has organized a relief trip to My Hoa, My Quy and Hung Tinh districts in Dong Thap Province to assist flood victims in two days, October 18th and 19th. SAP-VN's associate in Vietnam, Mr. Do Khac Hoanh, helped distribute a package of relief items to each 500 flood victim families (approximately cost $10 each). The total funding was $4698.91.
In addition, SAP-VN also participated in the Flood Relief Fund for Vietnam (FRF/VN) a short term group which was formed by 4 organizations to raise emergency funds to provide direct relief to the flood victims. Within 5 months, from August through December, a sum of $26,943.97 was raised to organize two relief trips to Vietnam. Mr. Nguyen Cong Bang, FRF/VN's coordinator personally distributed relief items and gifts to the victims. The first trip took place in October, 1996 in Long An. The second was at the end of December, 1996 in Qui Nhon.
During the second trip, FRF/VN provide 1,000,000VND to each 77 families who had relatives die during the storms, distributed relief packages to 33 teachers and 32 students. Relief items included 15.5 tons of rice, 750 blankets, 750 mosquito nets, 350 fishing nets, 15,500 notebooks, 3,700 pens, 350 packs of flu, cough, and diarrhea medicine, and 350 packs of candy. The total funding for these two trips was $21,363.00 including truck and bus rentals. Operating expenses totaled 5,586.34. Airline tickets, room and board, and miscellaneous expenses ($3516.36) were exclusively provided by friends and members of of FRF/VN.
